The Cast

Ten months later my belly cast is finally complete. I talked my good husband into placing layers of wet plaster strips as fast as he could all over my 36-week preggie belly last year. I mean who else was going to do it?

I ended up painting it just the one colour. I could have been a bit more adventurous and painted wonderfully intricate details or maybe even some flowers, but I’m creatively challenged. Not to mention lazy.

Before starting the project I knew I didn’t want to traipse to the other side of Melbourne and actually have to pay someone to do it as well. Luckily there’s a few kits you can get on Ebay and online and I also googled a couple of good guides on how to do it all yourself.

What a nice reminder of those good old pregnant days! The curves, the miracle of a life within…the utter exhaustion. A reminder it’s over, if only for a while perhaps. I consider it a piece of art and I hope Sam will appreciate it one day as much as I do.
